Mizuho Financial Group, Inc.
Mizuho means "golden ears of rice" in Japanese, but in the banking world it means the first bank with a trillion dollars in assets. Mizuho Financial Group is the parent of Mizuho Bank, which provides deposit and lending products to individuals, corporations, small and mid-sized businesses, and public sector companies. Subsidiary Mizuho Securities provides investment and brokerage services, while Mizuho Trust & Banking offers trust, stock transfer, pension and asset management, and real estate-related services. All told, the company has 890 branches, sub-branches, and agencies in Japan and elsewhere. Mizuho Financial Group was formed in 1999 by the merger of The Dai-Ichi Kangyo Bank, Fuji Bank, and Industrial Bank of Japan (IBJ).
